BECOME A LIFE SAVER
Pre-Requisites for becoming an active patrolling life saver.
MEMBERSHIP
Join Champion Bay Surf Life Saving Club.
PHYSICAL
To undertake training in the SLS Bronze Medallion, candidates are required to complete:
400 metre swim in less than 9 minutes
To have reached the age of 15 years at time of final assessment
TRAINING
Training takes approximately 6 weeks and includes theory, practical, dry and wet sessions. All sessions must be attended.
Session times are aligned with the needs of the group.
(A minimum of 6 candidates is required to run a course.)
Training is provided free of charge with the expectation that successful candidates will join a patrol team and assist in providing a Life Saving service.
ASSESSMENT
Assessment will be conducted by an independent assessor.

After training you will be able to:
Complete a run-swim-run (200m-200m-200m) in under 8 min.
Perform water rescues with and without equipment.
Operate communication equipment – Radios
Understand and deliver Surf Signals
Perform: First Aid, Lifts and Carries, Resuscitation, Defibrillation
Provide Spinal Care
Understand and participate in Patrol Set-Up and Operations, including IRB.

CITY OF GREATER GERALDTON AUSTRALIA DAY ACTIVITES
Providing life saving services and running activities for the annual kids beach party on the Geraldton foreshore every Australia Day.
MIDWEST GSC CLONTARF ACADEMY
Continued involvement through the running of an early morning surf related program over summer months before school. The boys use club equipment and learn basic lifesaving and surf sport skills in a relaxed friendly environment.
MIDWEST CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME
Supporting this local charity with annual donation of a ‘Family Membership to Champion Bay SLSC’ and 50% a Commercial First Aid Course.
Clubbies volunteer as event staff.
GERALDTON TRIATHLON CLUB
Provision of water safety services for Batavia Endure (Geraldton Tritathlon).
Loan of water safety equipment for Junior Tri Club.
GERALDTON CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
Course set up and water safety provision for Annual end of year Beach Carnival.
NAGLE CATHOLIC COLLEGE
5 week beach activity program with PAIS students. Covering surf sports, basic rescue techniques, basic resuscitation. Linking with life skills, teamwork and community involvement.
CHAMPION BAY AND GERALDTON SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS
Making available club resources to assist with school-run beach program.
SWIMMING WA OPEN WATER SWIM SERIES
Course provision and layout and Water safety provision and coordination for Geraldton round of OWS. Providing water safety personnel to Carnarvon round of OWS.
GERALDTON HARRIERS
In previous years. Provision of qualified staff for medical co-ordination and communications.
Provision of First Aid equipment.
CHRISTMAS ON THE TERRACE
Maintaining a profile in the community and educating the public on surf awareness.
Provide standby first aid facilities.
GERALDTON SURF FOR LIFE SURFING FOR THE DISABLED
Provision of water safety and first aid staff and equipment.
COMMUNITY EDUCATION
Community education and accredited training is supplied to the following groups.
